The Bridge Builder
I have read Voyage many times throughout the years, but as I was reading through it last week for school, I was struck by this passage. As Lucy realizes she will never return to Narnia, she is afraid that means she will never get to see Aslan again. However, he tells her that she must get to know him by his name in this world. When I read this statement from Aslan, I was blown away by the truth found in this statement. Aslan, as the son of the Emperor-Over-the-Sea, is a strong reflection of Christ, and the knowledge he shares with her beautifully reflects Christ' role in our lives. He has come to make it possible for us to join him in his home.I really love the imagery of Christ as the Bridge Builder who provides us with a way to go with him to meet the Father. For we know "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me'" (John 14:6). It is such a comfort to hear that although there is nothing I can do to make my self good enough, Christ came to build a bridge and allow me access to his home with the Father.
